Eminem continues to build anticipation for the release of his upcoming album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce), scheduled for this Friday, July 12.
Following the recent release of “Houdini,” a single in which the video pays homage to his alter ego Slim Shady by referencing his 2002 hit “Without Me,” Eminem has now dropped “Tobey.” This track features collaborations with Big Sean and BabyTron, forming an all-Michigan trio.
The song’s artwork plays on the famous double Spiderman meme, and it is accompanied by a video directed by Cole Bennett, who previously worked with Eminem on “Godzilla” and “Gnat.” In the video, the three rappers navigate a series of CGI-produced worlds. The most striking scene occurs at the end, where a character dressed as Jason Voorhees, the serial killer from Friday the 13th, attacks Eminem from behind and slices him in two with a chainsaw. But who is behind the mask? Naturally, it’s Eminem himself, symbolically killing himself on screen.
