The Mushroom Kingdom is heading to the stars, and it just found its most soulful resident. Nintendo and Illumination officially confirmed that Donald Glover will voice the iconic green dinosaur, Yoshi, in the upcoming sequel, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Following the massive success of the 2023 original, this cosmic expansion introduces Glover alongside a powerhouse ensemble including Brie Larson and Benny Safdie.
A New Chapter for the Childish Gambino Star
While fans still spin his final album, Bando Stone and the New World, Glover continues his shift from the recording booth to the silver screen. After health-related tour cancellations in 2024, his move into the Nintendo universe marks a high-profile return to the spotlight. Although some hoped for a Childish Gambino musical crossover, early reports suggest Yoshi will stick to his classic roots—though with Glover’s comedic timing, expectations remain sky-high.
Galactic Stakes and New Faces
Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, the sequel follows Mario (Chris Pratt), Luigi (Charlie Day), and Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy) as they navigate gravity-defying planets and neon-soaked landscapes. The crew must face a returning Bowser (Jack Black) and the debut of Bowser Jr. (Benny Safdie).
The voice cast expansion adds significant depth to the roster:
-
Brie Larson as Princess Rosalina
-
Luis Guzman as the villainous Wart
-
Issa Rae as Honey Queen
-
Donald Glover as Yoshi
