The trance world faces a historic shift as the legendary German duo Cosmic Gate announce their separation after 27 years of global success. On February 22nd, Nic Chagall and Bossi shared an emotional statement on Instagram, confirming that the project enters a new phase. This Cosmic Gate split marks the end of an era for one of the most consistent acts in electronic music history.
Stefan Bossems Steps Away from the Duo
The announcement reveals that Stefan Bossems (Bossi) decided to retire from touring and leave the project entirely. The duo characterized this move as a decision rooted in deep respect, gratitude, and a lifelong friendship. Since their debut in the late 90s, the pair built a rare legacy, consistently appearing in the DJ Mag Top 100 and releasing anthems that defined the trance genre.
“What we built together, side by side, is something truly rare and beautiful,” the duo stated. While Bossi moves away from the spotlight, the Cosmic Gate name remains alive. Nic Chagall (Claus Terhoeven) takes the reins to lead the brand into its “next phase.”
A New Era for Nic Chagall Solo
Fans won’t have to wait long to see this transition in action. Nic Chagall continues the project solo immediately, honoring all upcoming tour dates. This includes high-profile performances at Joshua Brooks in Manchester and the highly anticipated ASOT (A State of Trance) 25th-anniversary event in Rotterdam this weekend.
The transition comes shortly after the duo released their Perspectives EP series and the successful Mosaiik albums on Black Hole Recordings. According to the official statement, new music is already in development, specifically designed to shape the future sound of the solo project.
While the electronic community processes the departure of Stefan Bossems, the focus shifts to how Nic Chagall will evolve the signature Cosmic Gate sound. The “next phase” promises to honor their 27-year history while exploring fresh sonic territories.
