Fred again.. & LATIN MAFIA Drop ‘9 Months & 50 Hours’: The Mexico City Mixtape Born in Motion

Fred again.. and LATIN MAFIA release '9 months & 50 hours' mixtape following a whirlwind 50-hour Mexico City studio livestream

In modern club culture, electronic alchemy rarely happens in isolation. Few producers master the art of spontaneous human connection quite like Fred again... Over the last two years, the British electronic visionary and Mexico’s genre-bending R&B trio LATIN MAFIA traded ideas across borders, quietly building a shared creative universe. What started as off-and-on demo sharing erupted into a full-throttle sonic sprint in Mexico City, culminating in the official release of their collaborative mixtape, Fred again LATIN MAFIA 9 months 50 hours.

The groundwork for this release was laid on July 26 with the drop of Under the fabric (Mexico City, 11th December 2025), an evocative 35-minute performance film previewed for intimate crowds at Cine Tonalá. Directed around a suspended, tactile installation by Dutch visual artist Boris Acket, the film captured the raw energy of an unscripted studio session recorded late last year. But rather than letting nostalgia settle, the artists turned immediate creation into a public spectacle.

On July 28, Fred and LATIN MAFIA locked themselves inside the striking, minimalist space of Lago Algo in Bosque de Chapultepec. Pushing live stream culture to its extreme, they launched a non-stop YouTube broadcast titled “making a mixtape with latin mafia and staying here until we finish it”. For 50 unbroken hours, millions tuned in to watch late-night vocal tracking, sudden synth breakthroughs, and raw studio banter. By July 30, the tape was complete. Hours later, they took the stage for a legendary, sold-out celebration at Palacio de los Deportes.

“It was mad how quickly everything we made felt like it was naturally part of the same world. Sometimes I find I have to really work hard to make things feel like a contained universe, but in this case, everything that came out just naturally felt like one thing to us all.”

By fusing Fred’s signature emotional garage and UK bass textures with LATIN MAFIA’s hypnotic, Latin R&B vocal melodies, 9 months & 50 hours captures a rare moment in global pop music—where real-time creative risk takes precedence over calculated release cycles.
