According to research commissioned by Deezer and carried out by Ipsos, a jaw-dropping 97 percent of listeners can’t tell the difference between fully AI-generated songs and human-made music. The study went big. Over 9,000 people from the US, Canada, Brazil, UK, France, Netherlands, Germany and Japan took part. They were played three tracks: two completely created by AI and one made by actual humans. Only three percent could correctly identify what was what. The rest? Fooled. Hard.

Here’s where the tension really shows. People are open to hearing AI-generated music, but only on their own terms.

But it does mean the ecosystem is changing faster than listeners (and maybe even platforms) are prepared for.
