Vinnie Vincent’s $2 Million ‘Guitarmageddon’: A Masterclass in Rock Hubris or Genius?

The “Ankh Warrior” is back, and he’s bringing a price tag that would make even Gene Simmons blush. Vinnie Vincent, the lightning-fast guitarist who helped steer KISS through their pivotal unmasking era on Lick It Up (1983), has finally “released” his long-mythologized album: Guitarmageddon. But if you were expecting to find it on Spotify this Friday, think again.

Vincent is offering the rights to his first new body of work in nearly 30 years for a staggering $2,000,000.

The $2 Million Business Model: A New ‘Shaolin’ Moment?

By pricing Guitarmageddon at two million dollars, Vincent is positioning the record as a high-stakes investment rather than a consumer product. Much like the Wu-Tang Clan’s infamous Once Upon a Time in Shaolin, this release is treated as a physical and intellectual asset.

However, there is a twist. Unlike the Wu-Tang record, which was sold with a “no commercial release” clause for 88 years, the Vinnie Vincent Guitarmageddon purchase actually encourages distribution. Vincent’s strategy is to have a “third-party entity”—be it a record label or an investment group—shoulder the $2 million cost and then handle the marketing and release to the fans. Essentially, he’s crowdsourcing his retirement from a single, very wealthy “whale.

The Tracklist: “Heavy Metal Poontang” and Pro-Rata Deals

For those who find $2 million a bit steep, Vinnie is playing fair with the math: you can buy individual tracks for $200,000 each. The tracklist itself reads like a 1980s hair-metal fever dream, featuring titles like “HEAVY METAL POONTANG” and “COCKTEAZER.

The lead single, “RIDE THE SERPENT,” previously made headlines when Vincent sold CD singles for $225 a pop, defending the price by stating the song is “worth more than most entire albums.

The Legacy of the Ankh Warrior

To understand the weight of this move, one must look at Vincent’s history. Replacing Ace Frehley was no small feat, yet Vincent’s co-writing credits on Creatures of the Night and Lick It Up were vital to KISS’s survival in the early ’80s. After his turbulent exit, he formed the Vinnie Vincent Invasion, a band that defined “shred” excess.

Guitarmageddon has been teased since the mid-90s Euphoria EP. For three decades, it was the “lost” masterpiece of the shred world. Now that it’s here, the question remains: is the music “escapism on steroids” as Vinnie claims, or is it the ultimate collector’s phantom?
