Charli XCX Drops Secret B-Side “I Keep Thinking About You”

Charli XCX Blurs the Lines of Sincerity with New B-Side "I Keep Thinking About You"

Just when we thought we had decoded every lime-green layer of the Brat aesthetic, Charli XCX has shifted the gears once again. Fresh off the heels of the polarizing, guitar-heavy anthem Rock Music,” the hyper-pop visionary has unveiled a hidden gem that is already setting the indie-pop discourse on fire.

The new track, titled “I Keep Thinking About You Every Single Day And Night,” isn’t your typical digital release. In a move that feels both nostalgic and rebellious, Charli has opted to keep the song off major streaming platforms, making it available exclusively on vinyl and her clandestine Instagram account, @b.sides.

A Kyoto Dreamscape: The Visuals and the Sound

While “Rock Music” (produced by long-time collaborators A.G. Cook and Finn Keane) felt like a sonic punch to the gut, this B-side is a “slower and softer companion.” The music video, a monochrome masterpiece directed by Aidan Zamiri (the mind behind The Moment), was captured during a six-week film shoot in Kyoto, Japan. It features Charli spinning through a studio space, exuding an effortless cool that suggests this “new era” might be her most cinematic yet.

The Lyricism: Sincere Art or Masterful Trolling?

The song enters the “sapphic ballad” canon, but with a classic Charli twist. Referencing French New Wave director Jacques Rivette, she explores the thin line between platonic obsession and romantic awakening. “I wonder if I just want you as my best friend, or if I’m just a really late bloomer,” she muses.

However, it’s the bridge that has the “Angels” and the “Swifties” locked in a heated debate. Lines like “Now I’m wondering if I maybe could be gay/ But come on, look at me, I’m probably not” walk a tightrope between genuine vulnerability and sharp irony. Some fans are even speculating if the track is a direct rebuttal to Taylor Swift’s “Actually Romantic,” particularly with the stinging lyric: “I’ve always wondered if you were actually gay/ Or if that’s something you just say for your career.” Whether this is a commentary on “queerbaiting” discourse or a raw confession, Charli remains the queen of the “unserious” lyric that demands serious attention.
