If you thought Drake would return quietly after the most explosive rap battle of the decade, think again. The OVO leader just turned a Toronto parking lot into a scene from a thriller to announce his ninth studio album, Iceman, scheduled to drop on May 15. In a marketing move that literally defined “watching ice melt,” Drizzy stowed the release date inside a massive ice sculpture, challenging fans to earn the information.
From Pickaxes to the ‘Embassy’
The stunt, which began on April 20, saw fans attacking the ice with everything from bare hands to pickaxes. However, it was the Twitch streamer Kishka who struck “blue gold,” retrieving a waterproof bag from the thawing structure. In a surreal turn of events, Kishka was summoned to Drake’s Toronto estate (the “Embassy”) by Adin Ross via chat. After a quick unboxing—witnessed by Drake himself from his window—the May 15 date was confirmed, alongside a first look at an exclusive Iceman zine.
While Toronto fire crews eventually shut down the site for safety, the message was clear: the 6 God is ready to reclaim his narrative.
A “One-on-One” Conversation
Iceman marks Drake’s first solo studio effort since 2023’s For All the Dogs and his widely discussed feud with Kendrick Lamar. Drake has been teasing the “Iceman” persona since 2024—a nod to Val Kilmer’s legendary Top Gun character—positioning this record as a more intimate, “one-on-one conversation” with his audience.
Throughout 2025, Drake stayed prolific, releasing the collaborative project $ome $exy $ongs 4 U with PartyNextDoor and dropping a treasure trove of “burner” tracks via his @plottttwistttttt account. But Iceman feels different. With previewed tracks featuring heavy hitters like Central Cee, Yeat, and Julia Wolf, the album looks to blend his signature melodic rap with the sharp-tongued energy of an artist who has spent the last year in the crosshairs of the industry.
