The enigmatic Aldous Harding officially breaks her silence. Four years after the whimsical textures of Warm Chris, the New Zealand-born songwriter announces her fifth studio album, Train on the Island, arriving May 8 via 4AD. To celebrate the news, Harding shared the lead single “One Stop,” accompanied by a characteristically idiosyncratic music video directed by Michelle Henning.
John Parish Reunites with Harding at Rockfield Studios
For this new chapter, Harding returned to the legendary Rockfield Studios in Monmouth, Wales. She once again collaborated with long-time producer John Parish, the sonic architect behind her previous three records (Party, Designer, and Warm Chris).
The record features a rich ensemble of musicians, including:
-
Sebastian Rochford (Polar Bear) on drums.
-
Huw Evans (H. Hawkline) on bass, vocals, and organ.
-
Joe Harvey-Whyte on pedal steel.
-
Mali Llewelyn on harp.
-
Thomas Poli on synths.
Abstract Movements in ‘One Stop’
In the visual for “One Stop,” Harding engages in abstract dance inside a giant metal tub. The video perfectly mirrors the song’s singular atmosphere, blending the avant-folk sensibilities of her previous work with a fresh, rhythmic curiosity.
While Harding spent the last few years collaborating with artists like Perfume Genius and Sleaford Mods, Train on the Island marks her first solo statement since 2022. The 10-track LP promises a deep dive into the surrealist folk landscapes that made her a critical darling.
Global Tour Dates and Tracklist
Alongside the album reveal, Harding confirmed an extensive tour of North America and Europe. Due to high demand, she already added extra dates in London and California.
